Our Story
We are a volunteer-led group of your neighbours working to create safer, more people-friendly streets in Evergreen.
The Everridge Drive "Paint the Pavement" Project was born out of our concern over the excess speeding and volume of cars on Everridge Dr which have increased significantly over the past years.
Thanks to a grant from Activate YYC, we are painting the curb extensions at the intersection of Everridge Drive SW and Everhollow Rise SW with vibrant colours that helps draw attention to the crossing, visually shorten the crossing distance across Everridge Drive, and encourage drivers to slow down.
This temporary pilot project is also an opportunity to bring our community together and raise awarness about the importance of safer, more walkable streets.

Everyone is welcome to participate - families, individuals, youth & kids! Whether you can join us for an hour or stay the whole day, we'd love to have you there. No painting experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided.

About Paint The Pavement
Paint the pavement is a temporary pilot project designed to demonstrate where permanent traffic-calming features - such as curb extensions, speed cushions, and other speed control elements - could be installed.
By visually narrowing the roadway, this project aims to encourage slower driving, improve visibily at the crossing, and show how small changes to street design can create safer spaces for people walking and driving.

Importance of Reducing Speed
As Tony Churchill, the City of Calgary's former Mobility Safety lead, shared in a 2025 Calgary Hearld article:
"One thing that I can't stress enough is the importance and impact of speed."
He noted that estimates from other jurisdictions suggest that if everyone followed posted speed limits, traffic-related injuries and fatalities could be reduced by around 70%.

Traffic Calming Measures
Self-enforcing traffic-calming measures - design features such as traffic circles, speed cushions, and curb extensions that naturally encourage slower speeds - are sustainable and do not depend on police enforcement alone. In contrast, police enforcement relies on active, human-led ticketing and patrols, which is expensive, temporary, and dependent on active staffing availability.

The City of Calgary uses data to identify safety concerns and determine where traffic calming is needed. The more residents who report the same concern, the stronger the data becomes and the better the City can understand the need for action.
By submitting a 311 request, you are helping create a clearer picture of the safety concerns at Everridge Drive SW and Everhollow Rise SW and showing that this intersection is a priority for our community.

How to submit a 311 Request

- Concern: Traffic Calming Measures
You may include:
- Concerns about speeding and the volume of vehicles using Everridge Drive as a shortcut through the neighbourhood.
- Safety concerns for children, families, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- The long crossing distance at this intersection.
- Any personal experiences or close calls involving vehicles and pedestrians
- The high number of pedestrians due to:
- Two schools located on either side of Everridge Drive
- School bus stops
- City bus stops at the opposite corners
Ask the City to consider installing permanent traffic-calming measures, such as:
- Raised sidewalks or crossings
- Speed cushions
- Curb extensions
- Other street design improvements that naturally encourage safer speeds
