City-wide water restrictions in effect
The Bearspaw South Feeder Main has been shut down for reinforcement work starting March 9 and is expected to remain closed for approximately four weeks. During this period, it is important for residents and businesses to reduce water use, as the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant is currently supplying most of the city and surrounding region and is operating at maximum capacity.
Under Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions, all outdoor water use is prohibited. Calgarians are also encouraged to reduce their indoor water use by 25 litres per person per day.
Daily Water UseKeeping daily water demand below 500 million litres keeps us in the green zone, meaning the drinking water system can continue to meet demand while reinforcement work is underway.
If water use exceeds 500 million litres, we enter the red zone, which increases the risk of:
