Crime Statistics and Information
The Calgary Police Service maintains a crime mapping website to involve community members in every effort to keep Calgary safe for its citizens and visitors http://crimemap.calgarypolice.ca/. In addition, Great News Media publishes Community Crime Statistics https://mycalgary.com/crime-statistics/evergreen-crime-activity-update/
The Calgary Police Service has a free community automated notification system called “The Hub”. The Hub Messaging System will send informative messages prepared and delivered through the Calgary Police Service ranging from city events to safety notifications and emergency incidents using email, voice, or text messaging delivery options. All Evergreen residents and businesses are encouraged to register and create a profile for the types of messages they wish to receive and how.

Vehicle theft, theft from vehicles, and residential break-ins continue. Many of these are crimes-of-opportunity and are preventable.
Have you started your 9 p.m. Routine?
Did you know approximately 50 percent of break and enters occur in Calgary between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.? More than 44 percent of break and enters are preventable by simply removing valuables from cars, always locking vehicles and being mindful of who may be entering a parkade or building after you.
In order to help keep parkades and residential buildings throughout the downtown and surrounding area in Calgary, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) is reminding citizens to ensure that their vehicles, parkades and residential building entries and exits are always secured, especially before going to bed. The 9 p.m. Routine serves as reminder for Calgarians to do just that.
Every night at 9 p.m., you are encouraged to:

Vehicle theft, theft from vehicles, and residential break-ins continue. Many of these are crimes-of-opportunity and are preventable.
- Always keep your vehicle locked, and ensure that any/all valuables, change, gifts are completely out of sight. Don't leave anything visible in your car.
- Never leave your garage door opener in your vehicle — even if your vehicle is parked on your own driveway. Anyone who breaks into your car then also has an easy way to get into your garage and house.
- Always take your car keys and vehicle registration with you. Never leave your vehicle running unattended; a locked car door is not a deterrent.
- Make sure your garage overhead door is always fully closed. Ensure that all your property (bikes, toys, garden tools) is safely locked away. It takes only seconds for someone to take property from your garage or to access your house via your garage.
- Have a friend/neighbor check on your house daily when you are away. Make your house look occupied whenever you are away; have your newspapers/flyers picked up and your landscaping and snow removal attended to.
- Check the security of all your windows and always close/lock them especially when you are away.
- Did you know most vehicle automatic day-time running lights do not turn on the red tail lights? Don't just get in and drive -- turn on your lights manually so your vehicle can be seen from the back. It's a good habit to get into (even during the day) and can save lives.

Every night at 9 p.m., you are encouraged to:
- Remove all valuables from vehicles, including personal documents, key fobs, GPS units, mail, sports equipment and electronic devices.
- Ensure that vehicles are locked, windows are closed and if possible, parked in a secure parkade.
- Watch for vehicles or people trying to quickly enter a parkade, or residential lobby entrance, directly after you. This means refraining from holding the door open for people you don’t know.
- Don’t share alarm codes, pass keys or security cards. Even letting a friend or family member borrow these items can potentially create security concerns. If these items are ever lost or stolen, it could mean easy access for unwanted guests.
- Look for surveillance cameras. If possible, try to park in well-lit areas that are in view of building security cameras.
- Report suspicious behaviour. CPS encourages citizens to report suspicious behaviour by calling the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234. For crimes in progress, call 9-1-1.
