Great news! Our community ice rink is officially installed, and the new bleachers are set up to make the experience even more comfortable for everyone who comes out to skate, play, or cheer from the sidelines.
A huge thank‑you goes out to our board members and the many resident volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to make this happen. They spent hours working in the cold to get the rink ready, and we’re incredibly grateful for their commitment to our community.

Our community ice rink has been a wonderful addition over the past year, and it’s been amazing to see families, friends, and neighbours enjoying it together. This rink exists because of the time, care, and teamwork of the people who live here—and with everyone’s help, it can continue to be a great space all winter long.

- Use it with care so the ice stays smooth and safe.
- Pitch in with light maintenance when you can—shovelling after snowfall, clearing debris, and treating the space with respect.
- Help with flooding if you’re able. Even a few extra hands make a big difference in keeping the ice strong and skate‑ready.
Ice Rink Rules
1. Skate at your own risk - This is a shared community space. Please be aware of your surroundings and skate responsibly.
2. Helmets are strongly recommended - Especially for children and beginners. Safety first.
3. No rough play on the ice - No checking, pushing, or reckless skating. Keep it fun and safe for all ages.
4. Keep the ice clear of obstacles - No sticks, pucks, chairs, or equipment during public skating unless it’s a designated hockey time.
5. Respect designated times - If the rink has separate hours for hockey and public skating, please follow them.
6. No food, drinks, or litter on the ice - Help keep the surface clean and safe.
7. Keep pets off the ice - Animal claws can damage the ice and create hazards.
8. Supervise young children - Kids should always be accompanied by an adult.
9. Do not skate during flooding or maintenance - Please stay off the ice when volunteers are working. It helps the rink freeze properly and last longer.
10. Respect the space and each other - This rink belongs to the whole community. Kindness and cooperation keep it enjoyable for everyone.

The Calgary Evergreen Community Association (CECA) has long believed in creating spaces that bring neighbours together, and our outdoor ice rink is one of the best examples of that spirit in action. What began as a small idea has grown into a cherished winter tradition—thanks to dedication, teamwork, and a whole lot of community pride.
The very first Evergreen ice rink was installed by just two volunteers at the site where Freda Miller School now stands. It was a humble beginning, but it sparked something special: a vision for a permanent winter gathering place that the whole community could enjoy.
As Evergreen grew, so did the dream. The rink found its new home at Evergreen Community Park, located at 1150 Everridge Dr. SW. In 2015, the land was carefully levelled and shaped with surrounding berms to create the perfect foundation for a proper outdoor rink. This preparation allowed the space to be flooded evenly, giving us the smooth, reliable ice surface we enjoy today.
Each year, the rink comes to life through the efforts of the CECA’s dedicated rink committee. They handle everything—from planning and funding to gathering volunteers who help with installation and maintenance. One of the most important annual tasks is laying down the large white liner tarps. These tarps reflect the sun, helping the ice stay frozen longer and often allowing the rink to remain usable well into late March. Volunteers typically begin this work in early October, rolling out tarps, setting up boards, and preparing the space for another season of skating, hockey, and winter fun.

From skating on our community rink to enjoying warm treats, games, and outdoor fun, there’s something for every age to enjoy. It’s become one of our most popular events for a reason: it brings neighbours together, creates lasting memories, and fills the coldest days with warmth and energy.
